Gelendzhik Mixed-Use Development
Gelendzhik, Russia
Gelendzhik Mixed-Use Development is located in a resort city in southern Russia. The site is situated in a residential neighborhood with views directly to Gelendzhik Bay and the Black Sea beyond. The design of the 20 story building includes below grade parking, retail space, commerical office space, residential ammenity space, 15 levels of residential units and rooftop terraces.
The ideas behind the design concepts pull from the local landscape, the surrounding community and the resort lifestyle of the region. The shapes of the mountain peaks and valleys are recalled in the massing of the building as well as the manner in which the vertical towers reach upward toward the sky. The base of the building stands in horizontal contrast to the towers and recalls the geological strata of the area. The massing of the building is arranged to reduce the impact of the project on the street life of the area. We also chose building materials that provide colors and textures that are similar to those found in the local community.
