Sochi Private Residence
Sochi, Russia
The design concept for this residence draws on the vernacular vocabulary of traditional stone barn found across Europe and particularly in the British Isles. Warm, soft materials of stone and timber are offset by the crisp, contemporary lines of a standing seam zinc roof.
This scheme strives to integrate the house fully into the landscape. Reacting to the site’s shape and slope, the living spaces extend out into the landscape. A small courtyard on the southern side provides an outdoor cooking and dining area while the main courtyard to the north is a central focus for both kitchen and living rooms. A single storey north/south wing at the front of the house allows sunlight to reach the pool area in the afternoon.
The landscaping and gardens are also inspired by European gardens. Rock gardens and plantings are placed in a natural manner with minimal maintenance required.
